Below is the Stile Privacy Policy. It applies to Personal Information collected by Stile Education Inc (“Stile”) via the Stile websites, platforms, mobile applications and services (collectively the “Services”) from users based in the United States. “Personal Information” means information that identifies or relates to an identified individual or is protected as personal information or personal data under applicable laws. By registering or using the Services you agree to the collection and use of your Personal Information as set forth in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, you should not use the Services.

We’ve tried to keep the Privacy Policy short and easy to read. While we do encourage you to read the whole document, we’ve summarized it here for your convenience:

  • Stile’s privacy procedures are in line with applicable US law including the Family Educational and Privacy Rights Act and the California Consumer Privacy Act.
  • We collect and store a range of Personal Information about you, both directly (for example, when you provide it to us via the Services) and indirectly (that is, records on how you interacted with our Services, for example when you clicked a button).
  • We don’t use your Personal Information for any purpose other than what we describe in this Privacy Policy. The primary purposes are to provide you with the Services, or to provide you with pertinent updates.
  • We take reasonable steps to ensure the security and integrity of your Personal Information.

We may, from time to time, review and update this Privacy Policy including to take into account new laws, regulations, technology and Services. All Personal Information held by us will be governed by our most recent Privacy Policy, posted on our websites ( and The effective date of the Privacy Policy will be stated above. Our most recent Privacy Policy will apply to our collection, use and disclosure of Personal Information. We will post any changes on our website; we may also provide notice to registered users at the email address provided in their account. By continuing to use the Services after such posting or email notice, you agree to such changes.

What Personal Information We Collect

Stile collects several types of Personal Information about people who interact with us, both offline and online, or use our Services. The following describes the types of Personal Information collected by Stile.

  • Contacting us
  • If you write to us via email or one of our contact forms, for example when asking for assistance or making a sales enquiry, we’ll keep a record of that correspondence for future reference. The same applies to when you fill out one of our surveys or competition entry forms. We may collect your name, email address and other contact information through such communications.

  • Interacting with Stile or Using the Services
  • Upon account activation, we request that you provide your school name as well as your email address, full name and password. We also usually request the contact details of a number of staff at your school, such as of your accounts department and I.T. support staff. We ask for this information so that we can personalize your account, better assist you with using the Services, and communicate to you about important Stile updates.

  • Information of Others that We Collect on Your Behalf
  • Stile provides a flexible interface for schools to collect a range of information, such as files, text, photos, videos and much more, from their students. As we are not specifically aware of the nature of this information, we treat it as Personal Information. Schools are responsible for ensuring that they have provide required notices and obtained necessary consents from the parent or legal guardians of students to allow us to collect and process such Personal lnformation. In this capacity we are acting as a service provider to the schools under FERPA and the California Consumer Privacy Act and other privacy laws. Please contact your school if you have any questions about the Personal Information being collected and if you want to make a request about your Personal Information. If we receive such a request directly, we will notify the school about the request and will act upon their instructions in responding (unless we are required to respond directly by law).

  • Student Privacy - FERPA
  • Stile may have access to student education records that are subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. 1232g, et seq. and the regulations promulgated thereunder. This information is considered confidential and is, therefore, protected from disclosure, except with the consent of the student or in the case of a minor, a parent or legal guardian, or other person authorized to consent on behalf of the student, or in other cases permitted under FERPA.

    To the extent that Stile has access to “education records” subject to FERPA, it does so as a service provider to educational institutions. We will only use such education records and Personal Information contained therein for the purposes of providing Services to users that access our Services under our contract with the educational institution. We will not use such information to market to the users except to the extent permitted by law or by our contract with the educational institution.

    Except as required or permitted by law, or with consent as noted above, we shall not disclose or share such education records with any third party unless (a) such disclosure is permitted by the terms of our contract with the particular educational institution from which we received the educational records, and (b) the third party has agreed to maintain the confidentiality of the education records to the same extent required of Stile under its contract with the educational institution.

    In the event any person(s) seek to access protected education records, we will only retrieve such data or information upon receipt of, and in accordance with, written directions from an authorized person and if allowed by law. If we receive a court order or lawfully issued subpoena seeking the release of such data or information, we will provide notification to relevant users along with a copy of the court order or lawfully issued subpoena prior to releasing the requested data or information, if allowed by law or judicial and/or administrative order.

    If a student or his or her parent would like to request to access, modify, refuse further collection of, or delete a student’s Personal Information that we have been provided under a contract with a school or school district, please contact your school or school district with your request as we may not be able to respond to such requests directly under our contractual confidentiality obligations with the schools and school districts.

  • Children's Information
  • Stile is committed to protecting the privacy of persons less than 13 years of age (“child” or “children”) who use our Services. This policy explains our information collection, disclosure, and parental consent practices with respect to Personal Information provided by children and is in accordance with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”).

    Stile does not knowingly collect Personal lnformation directly from any child without first obtaining consent of a parent or legal guardian or other person authorized to consent to such collection. Parents and schools may use our Services to create accounts for children or provide access to our Services that they and their children can use for educational purposes. In such cases, we only collect Personal Information from a child if we reasonably believe or have received assurances from the subscribing user or in the case of use under a contract with an educational institution, the administrator of that institution, that the child’s parent or legal guardian has consented to such registration and use of Services.

    If Stile learns that Personal Information of a child has been collected through the Services without parental consent, then we will take appropriate steps to delete this information. If you are a parent or guardian and discover that your child has a registered account with the Stile without your consent, please email Stile at and request that Stile delete that child's Personal Information from its systems.

    Stile anonymizes the information collected by its Services and uses the information for research purposes. Stile does not (and will not permit any third party to) associate identifying information with research data.

    Parents and teachers can review and delete the child's information at any time in the Services. Parents or teachers who have any questions about how Stile handles children's data may contact Stile by sending us an email at

  • Anonymous Student Accounts
  • Stile doesn’t require your students’ real names to operate, though we believe it makes life easier for teachers. You have the option of entering pseudonyms for your students instead of their real names if you wish. Some customers provide their students with aliased numeric or random email addresses for use with online services, avoiding the need to store identifying information about them.

    Please remember that if you provide Personal Information about other individuals to us, you must ensure that you have informed those individuals that you are providing their Personal Information to us and that you have obtained their consent and advised them of our Privacy Policy.

  • Indirect Collection of Information
  • Aside from Personal Information you directly provide, we may automatically collect the following information about your use of our Services through cookies and other technologies: your domain name; your browser type and operating system; web pages you view; links you click; your IP address; the length of time you visit our Services; and the referring URL when you click certain buttons or how far you scroll on a page, or the webpage that led you to our Services. We may combine this information with other information that we have collected about you, including, where applicable, your user name, name, and other Personal information

    Collection of this data is undertaken for two reasons:

    1. To learn more about how our users interact with our Services, as part of our continued efforts to improve user experience.
    2. To calculate interesting information about learners, such as the time taken to complete a particular question within an activity.

    Our Use of Cookies and Other Tracking Mechanisms

    We and our service providers may use cookies and other tracking mechanisms to facilitate use of the Services and track certain information about usage of our Services. We may combine this information with other Personal Information we collect from you (and our third party service providers may do so on our behalf). The following describes the use of such technologies:

  • Some information is stored in your browser after you log into the Stile application which identifies your browser and keeps you logged-in. However, this information isn't accessible to other websites and doesn't let Stile or anyone else track you across the web. This information is deleted when you log out of the Stile application. You can use incognito mode to make this information temporary.
  • Currently, our systems do not recognize browser “do-not-track” requests. But as noted above, we do not track users across the web.

    Third Party Analytics

    The Stile Services offered through does not use Google Analytics, cross-site cookies, or any other tracking technologies which monitor your browsing activity across the web. Stile collects your activity on and uses it for provision of the Stile Services, and to assist in the design and operation of the Services. Usage data is never sold to third parties (although it may be transferred in the case of a merger, acquisition, reorganization or similar transaction involving Stile or its assets or business).

    Our marketing website — — does use Google Analytics to better understand usage of that website. Students and teachers are not required or expected to use in the course of using the Stile Services.

  • A word on auto-saving
  • Through the use of our auto-saving technology, information is often collected before you submit a form or page on Stile. Put simply, if you’ve typed something into Stile, you should assume it has been immediately sent to our servers.

    Links to External Websites

    If you follow any links to third party external websites from the Stile website or the Services, this Privacy Policy and the Stile Subscription Terms will not apply to those websites which may have their own policies relating to privacy and data collection and website usage. If you choose to access any linked website or to provide any Personal Information on such websites you should review their policies and terms of use to learn more about how they may use your Personal Information. We are not responsible for and will not be liable for the operations or policies of any third party external website.

    Use of Your Personal Information

    Your privacy is of utmost importance to us and we spend a great deal of time and effort ensuring that your data is kept safe and secure.

    The Personal Information you provide us is yours. We don’t claim any ownership of it whatsoever. We do not use this Personal Information for any purpose other than to provide you with the Services and for the other purposes listed below:

    1. to provide you with information, products or services you have requested;
    2. to provide you with an account, including evaluating and processing your application for an account, assessing or approving an application for credit or assessing your credit worthiness;
    3. to manage your account or credit account (if applicable), including orders and payments, collecting overdue amounts, and managing fraud and risks;
    4. to promote and market our products and services to you, including to communicate with you via SMS or email newsletters, provided that we have obtained your consent if required by law;
    5. to personalize and customize your experiences on Stile;
    6. to provide security and prevent fraud;
    7. to help us research the needs of our customers;
    8. to conduct research for the purposes of improving existing products or services or creating new products or services;
    9. to provide you with ongoing information about us and our activities;
    10. to allow us to provide third party information and offers in which we believe you may be interested, provided that we have obtained your consent if required by law;
    11. to use aggregated or de-identified information for the purposes of data analysis, research and reporting;
    12. to respond to law enforcement and other governmental requests, to defend or exercise legal claims and to comply with regulatory or other legal requirements;
    13. for purposes related to the recruitment and employment of our personnel and providing internal services to our staff; and
    14. for any other use required or permitted by law or any other purpose communicated to you at the time that the Personal Information was collected or for which you provided your consent.

    Generally, we will only collect and use your Personal Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. In the event that we collect or use Personal Information in ways other than as stated in this Privacy Policy, we will ensure that we have your consent (or in the case of a child, the consent of their parent or legal guardian or an authorized school administrator) or that we do so in accordance with applicable laws.

    We do not use your Personal Information to build a profile on you to sell to others, or to target advertising to you now or in the future. If you choose to close your account with Stile we will no longer use your Personal Information. Except as otherwise may be required in this Privacy Policy, we will not access the Personal Information you have provided us unless you ask us to (usually in connection with a support inquiry) or if we’ve got reason to believe we need to do so to investigate or prevent a violation of our Terms of Use.

    Disclosure of Your Personal Information

    We only disclose your Personal Information in the following situations:

    Consent. Where you have provided consent, we share your Personal Information, as described at the time of consent.

    Affiliates. We may disclose the Personal Information we collect from you to our affiliates or subsidiaries solely for the purpose of providing Services to you; however, if we do so, their use and disclosure of your Personal Information will be maintained by such affiliates and subsidiaries in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

    Service Providers. We may disclose the information we collect from you to third party vendors, service providers, contractors or agents who perform functions on our behalf, such as when Stile experiences a technical problem or to ensure that it operates in an effective and secure manner. To the extent that we do share your Personal Information with a service provider, we would only do so if that party has agreed to comply with our privacy standards as described in this Privacy Policy.

    Business Transfers. If we are acquired by or merged with another company, if substantially all of our assets are transferred to another company, or as part of a bankruptcy proceeding, or are in negotiations for any of these types of transactions, we may transfer the information we have collected from you to the other company.

    In Response to Legal Process. We also may disclose the information we collect from you in order to comply with the law, a judicial proceeding, court order, or other legal process, such as in response to a subpoena.

    To Protect Us and Others. We also may disclose the information we collect from you where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person, violations of our Terms of Use or this Privacy Policy, or as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

    Aggregate and De-Identified Information. We may share aggregate or de-identified information about users and their use of the Services with third parties and publicly for marketing, advertising, research or similar purposes.

    Access to data within a school. We provide extensive controls to allow schools to manage who can access the information stored on behalf of that school. Such information includes instructions, questions, student work, student results, comments teachers have entered about students, and so on. Accordingly, your Personal Information may be accessible to other users at your school.

    Access to data between schools. Stile is designed to keep each school’s data completely isolated. We do not disclose school-specific data (such as content, student work, student results etc.) across schools even if, as a Stile user, you are a member of more than one. However, if you accept an invitation to join another school’s Stile account we will disclose your full name and email address to that school.

    Direct Marketing

    From time to time, we may use your Personal Information to provide you with direct marketing materials if you would reasonably expect us to or if you consent to receive direct marketing materials. We will seek your consent to provide you with direct marketing materials if we have obtained your Personal Information from a third party. Direct marketing material may include promotional material about us or important updates about our services. We try and keep these to a minimum, while still providing you with the information you need or would probably want to know. We always give you the ability to unsubscribe from product update emails. You also have the right to opt-out of such marketing by utilizing the unsubscribe mechanisms provided or by emailing us at

    We never send email marketing to student email addresses.

    How and Where We Store Your Information

    Your data is stored within the United States and in Australia. Stile is securely hosted in the Amazon Web Services facility in Sydney, Australia. This is a state-of-the-art data center that has been independently accredited as compliant with the Australian Government’s criteria for information security. As you would expect, the physical security of servers and other infrastructure is tightly controlled according to industry best practice. In addition to a strong security focus, this data center has also been designed to be resilient to failure, featuring multiple separate power supply systems, independent network links and a range of other measures to ensure servers are always available.


    Stile has established safeguards to help prevent unauthorized access to or misuse of your Personal Information. These safeguards include physical, technical, organizational and administrative controls as set forth below:

  • All network communication between Stile and your web browser is encrypted.
  • Passwords are only stored in an encrypted form.
  • A sophisticated access control system is built into the core of Stile that manages the security of each piece of data you provide us, ensuring that only those who have been nominated can access it.
  • Only specific Stile staff members are able to gain access to the data we store on your behalf, and all such access is automatically logged. These security logs are regularly audited to ensure the customer provided explicit permission for this access to occur.
  • We log all actions performed on Stile by user and IP address allowing us to track down unauthorized access for as long as our logs are kept.
  • If you register for an account, you will be asked to select a password to help protect your information and verify your identity before granting access or making corrections to any of your Personal Information. You should never disclose your password to anyone. If you believe that your password or your account has been compromised, please contact us as soon as possible.

    Please be aware that despite our efforts, no data security measures can guarantee 100% security.

    Data Retention and Request to Delete Personal Information

    We will keep your Personal Information only for as long as required for our business purposes and otherwise as required by applicable law. Where we no longer need to keep your Personal Information, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify your Personal Information.

    You may request the deletion of your Personal Information from Stile upon account closure. Personal Information will be destroyed or de-identified from our live systems as soon as practical, though it may persist for a reasonable period of time in backups. Note that this Personal Information removal includes all Personal Information you or your teachers and students have uploaded or provided to Stile that we’ve managed on your behalf, but not our account-keeping records on you, which we’ll keep for future reference.

    Updating and Correcting Your Personal Information

    We will take reasonable steps to ensure that the Personal Information that we hold is accurate, up-to-date and complete. You can update your Personal Information at any time by contacting us at We welcome any changes to your Personal Information so as to keep our records up to date.

    Requesting your Personal Information

    You are entitled to access Personal Information that we hold about you. If you request access to your Personal Information, we will grant your request unless providing you with access would unreasonably affect the privacy of others or is otherwise not permitted under applicable laws. If we refuse your request to access your Personal Information, we will provide you with written reasons for the refusal.

    Section 1798.83 of the California Civil Code permits California residents to request from a business, with whom the California resident has an established business relationship, information related to the Personal Information disclosed by those parties to third parties for direct marketing purposes and the names and addresses of the third parties with whom the business has shared such information during the immediately preceding calendar year.     California Privacy Notice

    This California Privacy Notice supplements the Privacy Policy and contains the disclosures required under the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”).

    If you are a California resident, you may have the right to request Stile to:

    • Disclose if we have collected Personal Information about you;
    • Disclose the categories of Personal Information that we have collected about you (if any); the categories of sources from which the Personal Information is collected; the business or commercial purpose for collecting or selling Personal Information; and the categories of third parties with whom the business shares Personal Information;
    • Disclose the specific pieces of Personal Information that we have collected about you (if any);
    • Delete Personal Information we have collected about you (if you satisfy the conditions set out in the CCPA); and
    • Not sell the Personal Information we have collected about you (although as noted above, we do not sell your Personal Information).

    You can submit a request under the CCPA by emailing us at In order to respond to a request, we will need to verify your identity. If you have an account with us that is password-protected, we may verify your identity through our existing authentication practices for your account. If you do not have an account with us, and your request concerns “categories” of Personal Information collected, we can request from you two data points of Personal Information to verify your identity. If you do not have an account with us, and your request concerns specific Personal Information, we can request from you at least three data points of Personal Information as well as a signed declaration with penalty of perjury to verify your identity. As a California resident, you also have the right to designate an agent to exercise these rights on your behalf. We may require proof that you have designated the authorized agent to act on your behalf and to verify your identity directly with us.     We hereby inform you that we will not discriminate against you if you exercise any of your rights under the CCPA; for example, we may not deny you goods or services for that reason, or subject you to different prices than those paid by other consumers, unless provided otherwise under the CCPA, Federal, or State law.

    As stated above, we collect the following categories of Personal Information from California residents: (a) identifiers; (b) Personal Information categories listed in the California Customer Records statute (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80(e)); (c) protected class information including race, gender and ethnicity if provided by the school; (d) commercial information, including records of products or services purchased, obtained, or considered from Site; (f) geolocation data in the form of IP Addresses; (g) audio and video information in the form of uploads of users (including students and teachers if requested by the teacher); (f) internet or other electronic network activity information; (h) Non-public education information (per FERPA); and (i) inferences drawn from the Personal Information collected through the Services regarding student behavior (but only for use by the schools and not for sale or marketing purposes).

    We collect this information to provide the Services and for the other purposes described above. We collect this either from you directly or from school districts that are our customers and share this information with school districts and service providers and others as set forth above. If we are acting as a service provider to schools in connection with the CCPA, we are not responsible for responding directly to requests under the CCPA and will forward such requests to the school for direction on a response.
