At Stile, we create world-class resources for science teachers (we call them superheroes, because… they are). After writing our first lesson just eight years ago, today Stile’s web-based teaching and learning resources are used every single day by over 100,000 students and 8,000 teachers around the world.

We’re looking for a passionate current or former science teacher in Greater Los Angeles to join our US team as an Education Sales Manager. In this role you will be spending most of your time visiting schools to speak with science teachers about how they can improve their teaching and learning practice using Stile. You’ll join classrooms, run presentations, and build relationships with science teachers right around LA and perhaps even further afield.
Yes, this is a sales role, but if you’ve never thought of yourself in sales we urge you not to dismiss this unique opportunity. We have re-imagined sales at Stile. It's fun, it's light, and our customers love our product. Sales experience is not a requirement – we will teach you everything you need to know.
Imagine using your classroom experience and pedagogical expertise to consult with teachers, department chairs, district and school leaders, genuinely improving their lives and enhancing their students’ learning. Imagine delivering professional development to teachers and hosting events within the California STEM community. Imagine strategizing to solve the problems uniquely relevant to science teachers in California and help them navigate teaching the NGSS using Stile. Imagine multiplying your impact – instead of teaching a few classes, you’ll be supporting tens of thousands of students and their educators.
This is an incredible opportunity to be part of the initial team of something big, while backed by the security of an established organization that’s committed to its employees and global STEM teaching and learning.
Does this sound like you? If so, the first thing is to read ‘the details’ below. Then, send us your resume and a cover letter explaining why you’re going to smash this role out of the park. Include a paragraph on which Behaviours of an Effective Stile-ist most resonates with you or which you disagree with and why.
Applications close Saturday, July 17, 2021 11:59pm (PST).

We can’t wait to hear from you!
You’ll be one of the first to join the US based team, alongside an amazing and growing team in the US and Australia of educators, scientists, artists and engineers. Specifically, you'll be amongst the first of our US based team which is currently made up of one Senior Executive and initially two Education Sales Managers. We have ambitious plans to build a much bigger team made up of more sales managers, customer success and support personnel, so loads of opportunities for the right candidates. Imagine a company where everyone genuinely cares about, and is working towards, improving scientific literacy amongst our young citizens. We hold ourselves, and each other, to a high standard, and love what we do.
You’ll be extremely well supported. We value our people, and it’s important to us that they’re happy. We offer generous benefits and take care of our employees. We have strong management and feedback frameworks to ensure we’re successful.
You’ll be working on something that really matters. In partnership with teachers, we’re coaching students to become problem solvers and critical thinkers.
You’ll build an incredible network of teachers, district and school leaders and STEM professionals across California.
Flexibility. We expect that you work hard, but you do so from home and you’re the master of your own schedule.
A Mac laptop, phone, reimbursement of travel and whatever else you need to be productive remotely.
Generous PTO, 100% of health, vision and dental insurance and employer contributions to 401(k).
School visits and relationship building
The majority of your time will be spent on the road, visiting schools and districts. Mostly these schools will be in metro based Southern California, but you’ll occasionally find yourself making trips to the northern or regional parts of California.
These school and district visits mostly occur as a school moves through or is considering a trial/pilot of Stile. To begin with, you’ll visit schools and districts for scheduled introductory conversations that you have set up with science department chairs, science curriculum specialists or other school or district leaders. From there, you’ll run Professional Development for the science department, ensuring they’re confident using Stile in class. You might drop into a science classroom with students using Stile and find yourself teaching a class to model best practice teaching with Stile and through any of these visits, you’re looking to form strong relationships with teachers and leadership.
Ask anyone in our sales team; this is the best part of this role. Stile, our resources and our service, has an incredible reputation, and it’s such a fantastic opportunity to use your passion and expertise in a way that truly improves the quality of science teaching and learning.
Attending/hosting community events
Building relationships with those in the local STEM community is key to being successful in this role. For this reason, when we can again, you’ll be in regular attendance of local events and conferences. Once you have established a network, you’ll even find yourself hosting events to unite leaders within the community to share ideas.
We’re life-long learners at Stile, so we’re always looking to improve our practice. You’ll frequently find yourself reading up on the latest negotiation strategies, or learning about the latest trends in education technology. You can also expect to spend time peer-reviewing work with your colleagues, ensuring we’re always delivering the highest quality service possible. When travel allows, the US team will come together in person for training and planning.
Booking meetings and administrative work
If you don’t have sales experience, this might be the daunting bit. There will be revenue targets and other goals, which to meet, you'll need to be proactive. This said, we will be sure to teach you everything you need to know.
You have the confidence to follow up on in-bound leads from our marketing and also to reach out to district and school leaders and teachers yourself via email or phone to see if they’re open to meeting with you for an introductory meeting. You’ll also be supported by your manager to design individualized outreach to engage schools in your area.
Once you’re working with a school, facilitating a trial is great fun. Most of this process sits in the ‘school visits’ category, but there’s additional responsibilities like recording notes in Salesforce, contacting teachers to check if they would like further support or chasing up signed subscription agreements.
Whilst it’s not a deal-breaker, you’re a current or former middle or high school science teacher with at least 3 years classroom teaching experience and/or worked closely in educational sales or account management with a K-12 science digital resource.
You’re knowledgeable about science education and you’re across the latest trends in education technology, pedagogy and NGSS. Importantly, you share our passion for improving science education in the US, and genuinely want to help ensure our young people leave school ready to tackle tomorrow’s problems.
You are likeable and empathetic. A strong communicator that can build positive relationships and really put yourself in someone else’s shoes; understanding their problems and working to help fix them.
You’re eager to learn. Super eager. You soak up feedback, incorporate it, and are constantly driven to be better. You can’t help it.
You’re proactive and strategic. A hard worker who gets stuff done. You’re motivated to work independently, but love contributing in a team environment.
You are able to network and love making connections with others.
This is a full time, permanent role based in Greater Los Angeles. You’ll be spending lots of time driving to schools and districts, so you’ll need your own car (don’t worry, we cover your expenses). Semi-regular travel will be required within CA or to fly to San Francisco to meet with schools in the Greater Bay area, where we’ll hire a car and book a hotel for your stay.
When you’re not on the road, you will be working from home or in a Stile co-working space. We’ll ensure you have everything you need to be successful, including a phone and laptop. Work hours are flexible - you’re in charge of your own schedule - but you’ll find they generally fall in line with a fairly typical working day. Usually the meetings you attend and the PD sessions you facilitate will run before or after school, or anything in between.
